Aberystwyth Silver Band says Goodbye

Aberystwyth Silver Band at its recent promenade concert was delighted to make two much deserved presentations to Lindsay Penney and Robert Oakes who have recently graduated from Aberystwyth University and will be shortly leaving the band as they return home to Macclesfield and Nottingham.  The presentations were made on behalf of the band by Geraint Evans, the band's musical director in recognition and appreciation of both their outstanding contribution and commitment shown towards the band over the last four years.

Lindsay, Tenor Horn player and Secretary of the band was presented with a cut-glass mug and Robert Oakes, Cornet player with a pewter tankard.  The band wishes Lindsay and Robert all the very best for the future and look forward to seeing them both soon.

Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff

Aberystwyth Silver Band on Sunday 7th March performed at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff for the second consecutive year.  The bands programme opened in traditional brass band style with the March 'The Contestor', by the Tredegar born brass band composer, once referred by Harry Mortimer as the "Welsh Sousa".  The programme included a number of 'popular' items including Westlife's 'You raised me up'; Freddie Mercury's, 'Don't stop me now' and 'Musket, Fife and Drum, known to many as the theme tune to the ITV television programme ' Soldier, Soldier', closing with the March, 'Men of Harlech' which features 'Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau', the 'Land of My Fathers'.

The band thoroughly enjoyed the performance it gave at the Wales Millennium Centre and is already looking forward to next year !

Aberystwyth Silver Band congratulate very own 'Karate Kid'

Meleri Pryse, a keen Baritone player in the band and a pupil of Ysgol Penweddig Aberystwyth is also a Karate champion in her spare time.

We congratulate her for gaining her 2nd Dan and also receiving the silver medal at the Welsh Karate Championships.

Out of thirteen trying Meleri was the only female to gain this level in the sport.

Meleri has already been awarded the bronze medal at the British Championships.

Meleri will be wearing another 'hat' on March 7th when she will be playing for the Aberystwyth Silver Band on the Glanfa stage at the Wales Millennium centre in Cardiff.
