"Aberystwyth" CD Launch Concert
|
The
band would like to announce a concert to
launch their newly recorded CD
"Aberystwyth".

Holy Trinity Church,
Trinity Place, Aberystwyth will host the
concert on Tuesday 9th
October 2007 which will
commence at 8.00p.m.
The concert which will
feature many items from
the CD which will be on
sale on the evening of
the concert.
These
will include solo items
from our Principal
Cornet, Aidan Hassan,
our Principal Euphonium
player Neil Taylor, in
addition to many of the
bands other solo
players. The
programme will be
entertaining and varied,
definitely with
something for everyone!
Concert free with
retiring collection.

Aberystwyth Silver Band has taken a step

Band's Publicity Officer (Matthew Ruel)
and Student Representative (Graham
Brand) are confident that the move will
encourage members of the band to give
their opinions on how they would like to
see the Band develop and progress in the
future as well as providing a platform
for past and present members to keep
in
contact and finding out what they have
been up to in the brass band movement. |

Facebook is a fantastic way for
people to interact and connect
with each other, especially if
they have shared interests, so
it seemed logical that the Band
should try and become a part of
it.

50 Years and still Marching On!
Peter Henley (Bass Trombone) and
John Davies (Soprano Cornet),
Chairman and Vice Chairman of
the Aberystwyth Silver Band on
the Mayor's Parade were
presented by the Mayor of
Aberystwyth with shields bearing
the Aberystwyth crest to mark
their 50th Mayor's Parade
playing with the band.

Aberystwyth Silver Band Records
its first CD !
The Aberystwyth Silver Band is
pleased to announce that it has
recorded its very first CD!
The recording was a very enjoyable
experience for all concerned and the
band would especially like to thank
its Musical Director, Geraint Evans;
Dennis York for recording the CD and
our friends at Holy Trinity Church,
Aberystwyth for kindly letting the
band use the Church for the
recording.
The CD, titled 'Aberystwyth' will
feature several soloists including a
Cornet Solo by the band’s Principal
Cornet, Aidan Hassan (My Love is
Like a Red, Red Rose), an Eb Bass
Solo by Dr. Tudor Jenkins (Bass in
the Ballroom), a Euphonium Solo by
Neil Taylor (The Cavalier), and a
Cornet Trio (Three Jolly Sailormen)
featuring the bands Solo Cornets.
The programme featuring numerous
welsh melodies is entertaining and
varied, definitely with something
for everyone!
More details will be available soon
regarding the official release of
the CD, where it will be made
available for sale via the band’s
website as well as in local shops in
Aberystwyth!

Cambrian News Article,
Orchestral manoeuvres in the
park
"The Aberystwyth Silver Band is
back in tune after a major
refurbishment of its hall on the
newly-developed Ystwyth Retail
Park. The band had vacated its
rehearsal hall premises whilst
property developers Liberty
Mercian took on the retail park
re-design and associated works.
And although rumours persisted
that the band had been evicted
permanently, Silver Band
officials had confirmed that
their return to the
long-standing band hall would
take place after completion of
the work ... Liberty Mercian
also gave the historic hall an
upgrade, including the addition
of a new porch, new windows, and
landscaping outside the hall ...
[The band was delighted to be]
invited to play at the official
opening of the Ystwyth Retail
Park. [It was] particularly
fitting that [the band] had the
opportunity to say 'thank you'
to Liberty Mercian for the work
that they did in improving [the]
band hall ...
Seindorf Arian Aberystwyth
Silver Band [is also pleased to
announce it has launched] a new
website reflecting a new era in
the band's [long] history, under
its new musical director,
Geraint Evans."

E. Lloyd Jones Memorial Prize
The bursary in memory of Ted
Lloyd Jones (a long serving
treasurer and playing member of
the band) was awarded this year
to
Matthew Ruel presented by
John Davies on behalf of the
Band at the Band's Annual
General Meeting.

Welcome to New Players
The band is very fortunate to
welcome some new players to the
band. Dyfan Rhys on Second
Trombone, younger brother of
Cynyr Rhys, Aidan Hassan,
Principal Cornet who joins the
band with his two sons, Harvey
on Flugel Horn and Grady on Eb
Bass. The band also welcomes
Carwyn Evans on First Baritone
who joins us from Harlech Brass
Band. Carwyn has recently moved
into the area, having taken up
the post of classroom music
teacher at a local school.
